We had such a fun time learning all about Cinco de Mayo (the fifth of May in Spanish). We learned a bit of Spanish, learned why we celebrate it (Mexico beat the French in the battle of Pueblo), enjoyed some Mexican Food - courtesy of Mrs. Rodriguez, read some stories, made maracas, flags and sombreros, AND we learned a dance! It was quite the busy day!
My little owls have been working their tails off when learning new things! In math, we have been doing a lot of hands-on centers. Students are able to work with manipulatives and play fun games to learn the concept of subtraction. This past week, we have begun to work on 3D shapes. We also celebrated Earth Day in April. We read the Lorax, talked about the 3 R's: recycle, reduce and reuse and wrote about what we would do if we had the last truffula seeds. Students could easily relate to the story of the Lorax. They even went home and planted trees! We have been keeping up with our buddies weekly. One week we work on reading and another week we work on math (this week was mini bowling with subtraction!). We finished up our study of the Earth this week. Students were able to explore rocks, pebbles, sand and soil. We also talked about air and planting plants. Also, our ABC countdown has begun! You will see pictures of students with their stuffed animals, blowing bubbles and I didn't get a chance to snap a picture of their crazy hair, but we had some crazy hair!! Enjoy the pictures below.
Easter was definitely a fun holiday to celebrate. We used water colors to make giant eggs, practiced get to 10 with jelly beans, made an Easter Bunny out of a paper plate and had our own Easter egg hunt in our classroom. Mrs. Busscher also planned an exercising egg hunt that led students to peeps that said, "Always remember some bunny loves you!" They loved the surprise. We also had a grade wide egg hunt at the wooden park. Thanks so much to all of the parents that helped out with this. We appreciate all of the help!!
March was filled with so much fun! We celebrated St. Patricks day by searching for gold and being visited by a mischievous little leprachaun. Mrs. Busscher even Irish Danced for all of the Kindergartners. We also celebrated reading month with mystery readers coming to read to us (Thanks so much to those that were able to read to us!!) and having a read-a-thon at the CAC. It was all star wars themed. Students were able to participate in activities such as: a read aloud, DEAR, jedi training course, death star sight words, light saber tag and pin the ears on Yoda. My little owls had so much fun! We celebrated our last Wacky Wednesday by reading "Bartholomew and the Oobleck." We even made Oobleck and played with it ourselves! (green sticky stuff you will see in pictures). We also had Breakfast, Books and Blankets. I brought in pancakes and students were able to wear their PJs and snuggle up with their blankies and favorite book. What an eventful month! Enjoy the pictures below.
I am FINALLY catching up on these posts. In early February we had a fun time studying the groundhog. We made predictions, experimented with shadows, made hats and puppets. On valentines day, we played lots of learning games and enjoyed passing out valentines. The 100th day of school was a spectacular event! Most of my little owls brought in hundreds day projects and were able to show them off to the class. Thanks to all those parents that helped their child with this project! We counted to 100, had a 100th day snack, made a 100 fruit loop necklace, read lots of stories, got a 100 dollar bill, made 100 days glasses and made a 100th day hat. So much fun! We started reading with our reading buddies. We also did an activity with candy hearts with them. Then, we celebrated Dr. Seuss birthday on the 2nd of March. We had so much fun making cat in the hat hats and bow ties, reading lots of Dr. Suess stories and trying green eggs and ham! Lastly, with all of the snow, my kids LOVED to play on the hill outside of our hallway door. Enjoy all of the pictures below!
Students started the month of January by having an electronic party. They worked realy hard to earn one. We finished our unit on motion and moved on to snow! This month has been full of snow activities! We learned all about where snowflakes come from by reading a few books, watching a few movie clips and creating the snowflake life cycle on paper! We made paper snowflakes and real crystal snowflakes. The little owls were very excited to mix their own water and food coloring. They came back from the weekend to a fully grown snowflake! For the past two weeks, we have also worked really hard on comparing numbers. Students had a fun time using Alex the Alligator who chomps up the GREATER number! Our goal was to use the words greater than and less then to compare our numbers. Enjoy our learning pictures below!
We were very fortunate to be able to attend the Forever Curious Children's Museum in downtown Fennville. It was so wonderful to see my kiddos just be kids and play! Enjoy the pictures below.
The week before break was pretty busy with many fun things! We read lots of stories and made lots of Christmas crafts. During our Christmas party, students participated in reading and math centers. They were able to practice skills such as: reading an emergent reader, listening comprehension, sight words, real vs. silly words, and beginning sounds. In math they were able to practice: addition, greater than or less than, number recognition, teen numbers and counting. At our party in the afternoon we played games that consisted of: snowman bowling, candy cane fishing, trimming the Christmas tree and eating a hershey kiss with gloves on! We also decorated beautiful Christmas trees! Next, we studied gingerbread men all week. We read lots of stories and completed activities pertaining to gingerbread men. At the end of the week, I made gingerbread men for my kiddos and they were able to decorate them. All month long we were visited by a reindeer and magical elf, who we named Jingle and Hunter. I'm sure your child has told you all about it! On the very last day before break we had a blast studying the Polar Express. We read the book, watched the movie, stamped tickets, drank hot cocoa, practiced our beginning sounds and sat our chairs like a real train! Students were surprised with jingle bell at the end of the day, reminding them to believe. Enjoy the pictures below!
I hope you all had a wonderful break! I am busy at school catching up on my posts. Before we left for break the little owls were able to visit the downtown Public Library. They listened to a train story, looked at the model trains, had a snack and colored a picture of a train. I was very impressed with how well they listened and participated! Enjoy the pictures below!
